About

I’m a Christian, married to Paul for 25 years, and mother to three outstanding graduates, and a Writer, a retired Homeschool Mom, Co-owner of Paul Madison Construction LLC, and a Realtor.

As a parent, your jobs are to give your kids love and a safe home, and to teach them to love God, to respect others, to love learning, and, ultimately, how to find the answers on their own. You won’t always be there to get the answers for them. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just a work in progress towards excellence.

I homeschooled our three children from birth to elementary to high school with academics, hands-on-learning, trips to science centers, art museums, the space center, beaches, parks, and more. I was always teaching them. We were always busy.

My husband, Paul, did the occasional math lessons but mostly schooled in real life skills such as, building, painting, wood flooring, yard work, oil changes, and more. He is a Contractor and we own a construction business together.

Raising kids is a team effort!

My kids were very involved in activities and homeschool groups. They were socialized with many different people from all over the world. We had the privilege of living in SE Asia for three years which gave them the ability to adapt in many situations.

My husband and I decided to homeschool twenty years ago because the school near us was rated a “D” school. I went to college to be a teacher in a “regular” school but the year after I graduated, I had our first child. Someone I went to college with encouraged me to look into homeschooling so, I did. And so, we did…

We lived out in the country (and out of the country, more on that later), so I had to make a concerted effort to find ways to get my kids connected to other homeschoolers. I drove an hour a couple of years to a co-op then I decided to start my own homeschool group. It started out small, but it grew. I am still friends with some of the people I started it with.

If it’s not available, you can start your own group even when you feel inadequate.

The next year I started a homeschool group one day a week with paid tutors, part of a larger network of groups. I directed and taught in this group from 2007-2013. That group is still going strong today.

I taught in structured homeschool groups for several years and helped facilitate and direct other tutors in multiple subjects. I also encouraged moms to take time out for themselves and spend time with other moms to get a break. It is so important to have adult conversations with people who understand where you are coming from without a child hanging on you.

You should not feel guilty for taking care of your mental, spiritual, and physical health. If you keep pouring yourself out, there will be nothing left to give others.

In 2014, we moved to SE Asia to work with a Non-Profit Organization. We stayed three years. Homeschooling took on a whole different meaning and was a necessity. Our kids learned many things beyond the textbook during that time, for sure. My oldest had to fly to a nearby country just to take the SAT. But that is a whole other story.

All three of our children are currently attending college, two in Engineering programs and one is an International Business major.

I am so grateful and amazed that I had a part in helping them learn and grow and become the incredible adults they are today.

I have a Bachelor of Educational Studies, Salem State University, Salem, MA, 1997, with Honors. I live in Florida with my husband and daughter. I love reading, swimming, and walking on the beach and trips to the mountains.

I work with our construction company https://www.paulmadisonconstruction.com/

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
